About Orange Farm - from the Beginning

Orange Farm is a township located South of Jo'burg. We visited the local Madrassah. There are about 30 kids (orphans included) who live on the location who are being looked after & taught by a Moulana (not sure if he is a qualified Alim) & two Apa's. About another 30 to 40 kids attend maddrassah classes there as well.

Various donations were made & some if the items we took over was blankets, pillows, cleaning materials, quraans, kitaabs, food & old clothing items donated (inclu cloaks & kurthas)

The Location houses the following buildings/facilities:

Musallah
There are two musallah facilities where salaah is performed & classes take place. The kids use the Musallah as sleeping quarters as well (one for the girls & the other for the boys).

Storage Building
This is used to obviously store all the provisions that they have & have been given.

Shower/Toilet
There is only one shower & two toilets.

Cooking & Feeding area
This facility is used to cook & is also used as a feeding room. There is a bare minimum of cooking appliances (both small & large appliances). There is no running water in this facility.

Running water/Tap
There is only one tap with running water (apart from the shower) which is used for every conceivable purpose (wudhu, washing of clothes etc). The pic is attached.


There is a dire need for many infrastructure items in addition to the normal monthly items that are needed.



Some of the infrastructure items needed are:

1. A fence to be erected around the entire property. Parts of the property is fenced off but not the entire property.
2. Another shower (at the very least) & additional toilets.
3. Wudhu khana
4. More taps to be erected
   

Large Cost Items Reqd:

1. Matrasses (They only have a few matrasses).
2. Stove
3. Freezer (This has now been sponsored)
4. Fridge (The fridge they currently have is falling apart).
5. Other Items Required on an ongoing basis:
   

• Food
• Cleaning Materials - Detergents etc
• Soaps, Tootpastes etc
• Clothes (including kurtha's, scarves, cloaks etc) - The smallest is 4 & the eldest is probably in the mid-teens.
• Other (Quraans/Kitabs/Any other Islamic material)
  

The head-teacher / Maulana as well as the other teachers at one point before our intervention had not received a salary in 3 months. There were currently being sponsored that before but that has been stopped. He teaches 69 kids of different ages. I have no idea how he teaches the diff kids as they are all at different ages. There is thus a dire need for another teacher.

We appeal to you all to please, if possible, donate whatever you can so that we can help our fellow muslim brothers & sisters in need. We have undertaken to insha-Allah visit them once a month & to bring to them all the donated items then. Anyone is welcome to join us in our visit to them. At the moment only Sadaqah & Lillah. We just need to confirm if Zakaat can be used.
